The festivities generally begin on May 16, Saint Tropez Day, with a solemn mass in honor of the patron saint in the parish church. Participants wear traditional Provençal costumes, and religious banners are carried in the procession. After mass, artillery salutes echo through the streets to announce the start of the Bravades. Throughout the three days, military parades take place in the streets, members of the Republican Guard, sailors, legionnaires, and other military units march in uniform, bearing ancient weapons and flags, muskets are fired, recalling the city’s military history, music resounds during the Bravades, with groups of drummers and fife players and folk dances and musical performances take place in the streets and squares, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere.
